Frequently Asked QuestionsWhy doesn't Flint River Ranch have a separate puppy formula?Flint River Ranch does not make breed-specific food, nor do they make puppy food. The reason is because puppy formulas are a very recent trend in canine nutrition based on marketing speculation (not science) that puppies need a different diet than adults. This is not supported in wild canines, nor is it supported over the thousands of years of domestic dog history. Once a puppy is weaned, their physiologies are ready for the same foods that the adults eat. In fact, the high protein content of puppy foods sometimes contributes to certain kinds of joint problems. Puppies who grow too fast often suffer from joint problems such as panosteitis. Usually, the vet's advice is to switch them to an adult food to lower the protein content. Most puppy formulas have too much protein, which encourages quick growth, which in turn encourages panosteitis. Here's some info on panosteitis and its cause and
treatment: Better to not put them through the misery in the first place, and just feed a super high quality food that was designed for optimum nutrition for all life stages, and avoid the (high protein) puppy foods. Large breed puppies should grow slowly. Their final adult size is determined by genetics, not by high protein puppy formulas. Flint River Ranch's regular Puppy/Adult formula is an outstanding combination of protein, carbs and fats, with the vitamins and minerals that most puppies and adults need. Flint River Ranch seems more expensive per bag. Why do you say it's cheaper to feed?Let's look at an example. Ann and Bob are friends who both have a golden retriever the same age and same physical condition. Both dogs need 1450 calories per day to maintain their weight. Ann buys Flint River Ranch, Bob buys Eukanuba. Ann feeds about 3 cups per day to her dog, Bob feeds about 5 cups a day to his dog (because there are fewer calories per cup in his brand). Ann buys a 20lb bag of food every 26 days, Bob buys a 20lb bag every 16 days. Ann spends $26.80 for each 20lb bag, Bob spends $22.99 (plus tax). After a year, Ann has spent $376 for her dog to eat Flint River Ranch. Bob has spent $524 for his dog to eat Eukanuba. Flint River Ranch is less expensive to feed because it is more calorie dense. You feed less so each bag lasts longer and you spend less per meal. Why haven't I heard of this food before?Flint River Ranch is not sold in stores. Some veterinarians carry it, but mostly it is available only through independent distributors like me. Flint River Ranch chooses to market through the Multi-Level Marketing ("word of mouth") means rather than mass marketing, thereby assuring that customers receive more personal attention. If you read pet magazines such as the Whole Dog Journal, you may have seen Flint River Ranch compared against other pet foods. What's all the hype about human-grade? Why is that so important? It's important because food not fit for human consumption could be just about anything. And sometimes it is. There is no such thing as Grade B meats. Believe it or not, diseased and rancid meats and cancerous organs are used in pet food. Did you know that Brewer's Rice is a by-product of the alcohol industry? There aren't enough nutrients left in the rice to sell for human consumption, but instead of throwing it away, they use it in pet food. And make a profit on it. These sub-human grade foods are cooked at very high temperatures to kill anything that may have significant, immediate health consequences. But Flint River Ranch, its customers and distributors think it's important to look at the long term effects too. Feeding human-grade food gives our pets a better chance for a longer, healthier life. It's about quality! Why does Flint River Ranch cat food contain corn?Corn is not used in the Flint River Ranch dog food products because dogs do not digest corn very well and many develop allergies to it. However, the feline digestive system better utilizes corn, and corn supplies important diet benefits to cats and kittens. What if my pet doesn't like it?Flint River Ranch and I both offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all Flint River Ranch products. If you or your pet are not completely happy with it, just call or email me for instructions on how to return it (within 30 days) for a refund of your purchase price. I would be happy to recommend other brands that may be more to your pet's liking, that also contain the high quality ingredients that Flint River Ranch uses. Can anyone become a distributor?Any resident of the USA over the age of 18 can become a distributor! If you know people who care about their pets and would like to meet more, visit my distributorship page for more information, or email me. |
